Before, this Derby basement had inefficient windows that would leak air and moisture, making the surrounding area uncomfortable. Wanting to make her home more energy efficient, the homeowner decided to reach out to the experts at Dr. Energy Saver of CT to help find a solution.
The solution for this basement was to install EverLast windows. Our low-e EverLast windows will not let heat through the glass like the original windows would and will also prevent drafts and leaking. Old windows (like the one in the before photo) easily rust, but with our EverLast windows, there will be virtually no maintenance because they have vinyl frames that will not rust and do not need to be painted. These windows are not only practical, but they let in a lot of natural light, making the entire area more welcoming. This is exactly what the homeowner wanted and they were very pleased with the results.
A crawl space under this Glastonbury, CT’s first-floor bedroom was created when the original owners of the house put on an addition. The space had a dirt floor and vents to the outdoors. A number of years ago, the homeowners hired someone to insulate the crawl space. Insulation was installed on all of the surfaces and covered with plastic. When the homeowners checked the condition of the crawl space in the early summer, they discovered that the insulation was moldy and falling down, the vents were rotted (allowing access to the house by critters of all sizes), and the space had very high humidity. The homeowners couldn't call us fast enough!
A full encapsulation of the crawl space was a necessity. CleanSpace was installed on top of the dirt floor to prevent moisture from seeping through. The SilverGlo panels were placed on the wall to act as a radiant barrier. Lastly, a SaniDry dehumidifier was installed to keep humidity below 55%. Now, with this full crawl space encapsulation and a SaniDry dehumidifier installed by our company, the homeowners now have a clean, dry, critter-free space under their bedroom!
