This Farmington home had some major issues with air leakage from a lack of insulation. By coating the roof of this attic with open-cell spray foam, we were able to transform this drafty attic into an air-sealed, energy saving space. We lowered the heating and cooling costs in this Farmington, CT home by up to 40%!
When we arrived in this attic, leaking air and heat moved easily between the living space and the attic at every recessed light location. Without a cover, air flowed freely around holes in the can and through the edges of the drywall opening. Our solution was to install a special noncombustible cover around the “can” and then add extra insulation. Because of this insulation and air sealing, the house will stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.
The owners of this home used to waste hundreds of dollars on heating and cooling every year because their home has too little attic insulation and too much air leakage into the attic space. The owners soon realized that they had a problem and contacted Dr. Energy Saver or Connecticut.
We quickly diagnosed the problem and realized the insulation needed to be replaced. We installed the SuperAttic system, which utilizes SilverGlo rigid foam insulation. These panels create a continuous air and insulation barrier directly beneath the attic roof, with no thermal bridging to compromise energy performance. With the SuperAttic system, roof ventilation is maintained without allowing exterior air to enter the attic space. As an added benefit, SilverGlo insulation panels include an integral radiant barrier that further reduces heating and cooling costs. With the SuperAttic insulation installed, these homeowners were pleased to find they saved on energy costs and had a home that now stayed warm during the winter!
This home used to have massive ice dams. To prevent them from forming in the future, we replaced the old fiberglass insulation with a nice thick layer of our TruSoft cellulose. We also air sealed the attic floor, then covered the skylight assemblies with an airtight wrapping of our SilverGlo foam boards. Now the home doesn't have air leaks that cause ice damming!
This meriden home had insulation that wasn't very efficient. The attic was very drafty and alot of air would escape. The home owners were very frustrated with their previously poorly installed insulation and decided its time to call someone to fix it. They contacted us here at Dr. EnergySaver of Connecticut and Paul Zambrano, one of hour home energy specialists came up with a solution to fix the issue for good. We took out their fiberglass insulation and put in our Spray foam. Spray foam is an open-cell foam made up of tiny bubbles that are interconnected. The bubbles hold air, which provides insulation value — typically between R-3.5 and R-4 per inch. The homeowners now have a better insulated and seal attic that holds in their heated or conditioned air, saving them big money on their heating and cooling costs.
