Professional Air Sealing in Trumbull, CT

This Trumbull, CT homeowner had been experiencing their kitchen being uncomfortably cold in the winter and hot in the summer. They thought it was because of their walls, but when our trusted Home Energy Expert Keith Saunders visited the home, he explained it was more because of their improperly insulated attic.  The home’s attic was insulated with a layer of fiberglass batts insulation between the ceiling’s joists, but this was not adding enough of a thermal barrier between the home and the freezing cold attic. There were also many holes where wires were fed through the plywood where air was leaking, and there were several can lights above the kitchen which were incredibly leaky.

Keith suggested Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut installing sprayable foam sealant in order to air seal the gaps in the attic. They would also use SilverGlo Rigid Foam insulation in order to provide a continuous, airtight insulation layer with a radiant barrier to reflect the warm air back inside during the wintertime. The homeowners agreed to have these installed along with additional insulation in their attic.

Our crew lead by Rudy Abel went to the home and started the work by removing all the old dirty insulation and air sealing with the orange foam. They installed TiteShell recessed can light covers over the light fixtures in the attic and sealed them with expanding foam around their edges. This keeps air from inside your rooms leaking out into the cold attic. They also installed the SilverGlo Rigid Foam insulation where any interior walls were exposed to the attic and sealed the gaps between them with sprayable foam sealant. They then installed TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the attic by blowing it in through a hose.

The homeowners noticed a difference right away in their warmer kitchen and less drafty rooms around the house.
