Proper Insulation Will Help Decrease Your Energy Bills All Year

As a Connecticut homeowner, you know full-well how harsh the winters and summers can be here. One of the best ways to save on your energy bills for years to come is to update your home's insulation. Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut is a professional blown insulation contractor, catering to residential homes in New Haven and nearby. Hop on the path to savings by contacting us today!

Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut likes using blown-in cellulose insulation for many homes due to the fact that it is one of the best types of insulation that can match or exceed the insulation value of fiberglass, with R-values as high as R-4 per inch. That is because, unlike fiberglass which doesn't stop air movement, cellulose does a good job of slowing or stopping air leaks that can waste energy and cause cold drafts. It is also eco-friendly, as it takes much less energy to manufacture than other types of insulation, and is even made from recycled newspaper. Plus, blown-in cellulose is resistant to fires, mice, and mold, so you can count on the insulation value lasting.

Ice Dam Repair & Prevention Solutions

Homes in this area of the country are exposed to frigid temperatures and snow every winter.  Because of this, ice dams are common issues that homeowners deal with.  Ice dams are caused when the heat inside your attic warms the underside of the roof and causes ice and snow to melt. Ice dams can cause serious damage to your roof and can leak into your attic. When we talk about ice dams, one of the most frequent questions we get asked is " how do I prevent or repair ice dams?".  Preventing ice dams is fairly simple with the use of proper insulation and air sealing. If your home is facing ice dam issues, contact the experts at Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut for a FREE quote today!

Job Stories From New Haven County, CT
Much needed attic insulation in Southbury CT

A Heritage Village home had little to no insulation in the attic which made the summers hot, and the winters cold. The homeowners called us and we made all their worries go away. We took out the old insulation and replaced it with a more effective insulation our expert blown insulation. Our insulation can usually be installed over existing attic insulation, as long as the existing insulation is in good condition. BEFORE installing new attic insulation, it’s critical to seal energy-wasting air leaks between the attic space and the living space below. Insulation slows heat transfer, but will not stop conditioned air from leaking into the attic; that’s why air sealing is always done along with an insulation upgrade. A skilled energy improvement contractor has the know-how to find and seal air leaks using a variety of materials and techniques.

Cellulose insulation is often used in attics because it can be installed quickly and effectively with blowing equipment. Cellullose is super-green: It’s made from recycled newspapers and treated for resistance to fire, mold and insects.

Attic Insulation in Wolcott, CT

This Wolcott, CT found that they were losing a lot of their paid heat and air, yet their energy bills were spiking high! They gave us a call at Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut, and we were happy to come help out~

We first installed spray foam insulation into the attic. By blowing cellulose insulation into the attic, you are choosing an environmentally friendly insulation made from recyled materials that are treated for fire resistance. Cellulose is blown into the attic or wall cavaties to provide a thick layer of insulation. We also installed Silverglo insulation panels onto the attic walls. These panels are durable, waterproof, and by taping the seams between boards, the technicians create an effective air barrier, providing yet another energy-saving feature.

The Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut team, lead by foreman Rudy Abel, removed all the poorly performing fiberglass batts insulation and installed one metal chimney wrap with rockwool as well as installing TruSoft blown in cellulose. Insulated Attic in North Branford, CT

John P., a North Branford homeowner, communicated with several other contractors looking to have his attic air sealed and further insulated. His attic was originally filled with roofing debris and in need of upgraded insulation.

The Dr. Energy Saver team, led by foreman Johnny Lopez, first removed all the underperforming fiberglass batts insulation and sealed all air gaps throughout the attic, which makes sure no conditioned/heated air within the home can escape. This included installing 20 can light caps to keep air from passing through the holes. Next, they sprayed between the joists on the underside of the roof with an inch of Spray Foam which will help prevent future roofing debris from littering the attic and forms an air-tight layer of insulation throughout the entire space. The entire adjacent interior wall was insulated with several panels of SilverGlo rigid insulation, which includes a layer of radiant barrier that both protects the inside of the attic and home from harsh outside temperatures and contains conditioned or heated air within. After all this air sealing and insulating, the homeowner and our team decided their attic needed one additional blanket of protection, so our production team installed a thick layer of blown in TruSoft cellulose.

Now this homeowner has an incredibly well-insulated attic and has already been experiencing big perks, including improved comfort and lower heating and cooling costs!

DensePack Cellulose in Older Prospect, CT Home

These Prospect, CT homeowners were living in an older cap cop style home. They were sure that because of its age, their exterior walls desperately needed an insulation upgrade. Their house had always been humid in the summer and cold in their winter, and knowing they never had enough insulation for the time they’ve been living there, they realized it had gone on for too long. They finally called Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut and asked to meet with one of our Home Energy Specialists.

Our crew, lead by Rudy Abel, came out to their house to start work. They decided with the homeowner that the best service to install is our TruSoft densepack cellulose. This product is installed by removing minimal strips of siding, drilling holes into the plywood layer, and installing pressurized cellulose into the cavities. For this home, the crew had to remove 33 pieces of siding and drilled a total of 225 holes in order to inject the cellulose into every nook inside the walls. It took two entire days and we sent out extra crew members as reinforcements in order to complete the job on time. The house’s walls were very old and weak, made from old paneling, so there were a couple times the panels could not handle the pressure of the cellulose, so the crew fixed them to be as good as new!

After all the walls were densely packed, the crew plugged up the holes and re-installed the siding. The homeowners expressed it seemed like they were living in a completely different home! They already noticed a difference in how the insulation retained their conditioned air during the summer and soon they will save big on their future heating and cooling bills.
