Proper Insulation Will Help Decrease Your Energy Bills All Year

As a Connecticut homeowner, you know full-well how harsh the winters and summers can be here. One of the best ways to save on your energy bills for years to come is to update your home's insulation. Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut is a professional blown insulation contractor, catering to residential homes in Middlesex County and nearby. Hop on the path to savings by contacting us today!

Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut likes using blown-in cellulose insulation for many homes due to the fact that it is one of the best types of insulation that can match or exceed the insulation value of fiberglass, with R-values as high as R-4 per inch. That is because, unlike fiberglass which doesn't stop air movement, cellulose does a good job of slowing or stopping air leaks that can waste energy and cause cold drafts. It is also eco-friendly, as it takes much less energy to manufacture than other types of insulation, and is even made from recycled newspaper. Plus, blown-in cellulose is resistant to fires, mice, and mold, so you can count on the insulation value lasting.

Ice Dam Repair & Prevention Solutions

Homes in this area of the country are exposed to frigid temperatures and snow every winter.  Because of this, ice dams are common issues that homeowners deal with.  Ice dams are caused when the heat inside your attic warms the underside of the roof and causes ice and snow to melt. Ice dams can cause serious damage to your roof and can leak into your attic. When we talk about ice dams, one of the most frequent questions we get asked is " how do I prevent or repair ice dams?".  Preventing ice dams is fairly simple with the use of proper insulation and air sealing. If your home is facing ice dam issues, contact the experts at Dr. Energy Saver Of Connecticut for a FREE quote today!

Job Stories From Middlesex County, CT
Family Room Insulation in Centerbrook, CT

This family in Centerbrook, CT noticed that their family room and hallway became increasingly drafty, and their oil and electricity bills were starting to get pretty high. They wanted a solution to these problems, so they gave us a call at Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut!

We came out, and quickly diagnosed what needed to be done. Do get the draft out of the hallway and family room, we decided to insulate the area just adjacent to the hallway with closed cell spray foam. Closed cell foam seals off air infiltration and forms a moisture barrier, while also blocking and absorbing sound! We also installed open cell spray foam to reduce energy bills in their attic. It has a high coverage rate, and is a very light material. It can fill larger rooms with less material, so it is the perfect choice for the attic.

This family now has a much warmer family room, and significantly less expensive energy bills. Give us a call today for your FREE energy evaluation.

Insulation Transformation in Moodus, CT

This home in Moodus, CT was constantly cold inside, but the energy bills the family received said otherwise. They weren't sure why this was happening, and decided it was a time to find a solution. They called us at Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut, and we were happy to come out!

Our Home Energy Specialist, Keith Saunders, came out and quickly found out that their home's insulation in the attic wasn't up to par. It needed to be removed quickly, so Keith sent out Johnny Lopez and his team to get the job done! They removed all of the old insulation, and then spray foamed the entire attic with closed cell spray foam. This insulation adds strength to framing and sheathing, seals off air infiltration, and it blocks and absorbs sounds. It has great resistance to air and water vapor, and best of all? Reduces your energy costs!

This family can now relax comfortably in their home! Give us a call TODAY for your FREE energy evaluation!

Insulation Upgrades in Killingworth, CT

Maura M. called Dr Energy Saver of Connecticut with concerns of her attic being poorly insulated and high heating and cooling costs. Our certified home energy specialist, Keith Saunders, visited the home and diagnosed what was wrong, plus recommended a series of solutions.

Keith communicated to the homeowner that the hatch to their attic was not airtight when shut and was not well insulated. Also, the attic was originally insulated using fiberglass batts insulation, which were both installed wrong and collecting moisture. In addition to gaps around wires, can lights, and the duct work in the attic, there was a major issue with the fiberglass insulation at the home’s rim joist that needed to be addressed. There was also a leaky window in the crawlspace.

Our foreman Rudy Abel later removed all the old insulation and installed upgraded air sealing, insulation, window inserts, a hatch cover, etc. and now our homeowner is living in a much more comfortable home with much lower heating and cooling costs!

Wet, Messy Crawl Space Saved in Haddam, CT

Richard B, a Haddam homeowner, called Dr. Energy Saver of Connecticut voicing his concerns about the fiberglass batts insulation in his crawlspace looking like a mess and incredibly high heating and electricity bills. One of our top Home Energy Specialists, Keith Saunders, traveled to his house in Haddam to see what was going on.

Keith went into the crawlspace and realized that not only were all the fiberglass batts falling from the floor joists above and creating a big mess, but they were incredibly moist, and mold was growing throughout the space. This was a big health problem. Also, there was not enough insulation in the attic to adequately contain all the heated or conditioned air within the living spaces.

After communicating with the homeowner, Keith decided the most beneficial solutions would be to remove all the failing fiberglass batts in the crawlspace and the attic. The attic was air sealed using an expanding spray-able foam before our TruSoft Blown Cellulose was installed to reach an R-value of R60. Next, the team installed our Spray Foam Insulation which not only insulated the space from outside, but it formed an air and moister tight seal. Finally, the crew worked on waterproofing the crawlspace using our CleanSpace Encapsulation System, Drainage matting and SIlverGlo Rigid Insulation along the walls.

Now this home is well insulated, and its crawlspace is protected against future moisture problems. The homeowner was glad to see his electricity bills were already lower!

Homeowner Invests in Home Energy in Portland, CT

This Portland homeowner believed his home was not as energy efficient as it should be and was frustrated by expensive heating and cooling bills. He called Dr Energy Saver of Connecticut and met with one of our Home Energy Specialists Matt Mirabile. The homeowner communicated that he wanted to invest in his home’s energy efficiency and hopefully save his family some money.

Matt recommended some of our most successful products in terms of energy efficiency. The homeowner and him agreed to give the attic more insulation and upgrade some windows in the basement. Foreman Rudy Abel came to the home soon after to install the products.

He first air sealed the entire attic with expanding spray foam, then installed panels of our SilverGlo rigid foam insulation throughout the attic on the underside of the roof. These rigid foam panels are made of charcoal infused foam which adds to their R-value and makes them pest and rodent proof! They have a layer of reflective radiant barrier that keeps heated air inside the home. Afterwords he installed a thick blanket of our TruSoft Blown Cellulose insulation. Finally, the windows down in the basement were replaced with our EverLast window inserts.

Now this homeowner can rest easy knowing this investment will bring him and his family a more comfortable home and a considerable turn in investment!

Insulated Cantilevered floor in Durham, CT

This homeowner from Durham, CT called Dr Energy Saver of Connecticut for their free at home estimate with concerns over the amount of insulation in his walls. One of our Home Energy Specialists, Greg Davis, visited the home and before even walking inside, he found the culprit. In the construction of this home, either the architect, the homeowner, or contractor at one point decided to push the second story to a cantilever in order to give the home a higher square footage. This typically means there are several square feet of flooring completely uninsulated and exposed to the outside atmosphere.

Dr Energy Saver of Connecticut sent out one of our most trusted foremen, Johnny Lopez, to solve the problem. Johnny was sent out to install our densely packed TruSoft Cellulose insulation into the gap in the floor cantilevered. This required removing a few lengths of siding on the exterior of the home and drilling holes into the plywood to access the floor and wall cavity. The cellulose insulation was then pushed through a pressurized hose and filled the cavity to capacity. The benefit of this is the floor and walls are not only completely insulated, but it can be installed without removing any existing insulation because injecting enough to fill all air gaps is the goal.

Now this homeowner has noticed the rooms near the cantilever are much more comfortable which has allowed for a more comfortable and energy efficient home overall.
